The Yard Works in 1950

By 1950, a number of buildings in the Yard Works had been demolished to make way for new staff facilities. The uses of existing buildings also changed. Horrockses had begun to modernise their factories by buying new machinery. In 1950 Horrockses were making cotton cloth for dresses and sheets, towels and other household textiles. However by 1962 the Yard Works had closed and soon cotton cloth was no longer made in Preston. The last few buildings on this site were demolished in 2001. All that remains are parts of the 19th century perimeter wall behind Church Street and Grimshaw Street.
