We are a free museum located right in the centre of Preston. There
are always lots of exciting things to see and do at the Harris.

The Story of Preston
Permanent exhibition on the first floor
This is an exhibition about the history of Preston from prehistoric
times to 1913. It features information and objects about the period
covered by this website, 1700 to 1913, moving from Preston as a
market town to an industrial town. Highlights include a model of
Richard Arkwrights water-frame and a huge model of Horrockses
Yard Works. There is also a Victorian street scene and display featuring
a weaving loom.
We have
a number of free events and activities for family and school groups.

Admission to the museum is free
We are open Monday to Saturday 10am 5pm
The museum shop and café are open 10am 4pm
We are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays
There is lift access to all floors except the Egyptian balcony.
A toilet accessible to wheelchair users is on the ground floor.
Male toilets are located on the first floor near the Story of Preston.
Female toilets are located at the top of the right stairway to the
second floor. There are baby-changing facilities within the female
toilets.
Guide dogs are welcome. A wheelchair is also available if required.
