The Preston Guild is the town's greatest celebration. It has been held once in every twenty years since 1542. Its original purpose was to demonstrate the power and importance of the town's businesses.

During the Guild of 1762 there were grand dances and musical events. It also had the first recorded Trades' Procession. This was when the members of the different trade companies paraded through the streets. This included the Weavers and Cloth Workers Company.
