1802 Preston Guild

Amusement programme, 1802 Guild.

When the 1802 Guild was held the cotton industry had become one of the most important parts of Preston life.

The cotton spinners and handloom weavers walked at the head of the Trades Procession. They were led by the town's leading cotton manufacturers, John Watson and John Horrocks, who walked arm in arm despite being bitter rivals.

The display of costumes, banners and floats organised by the cotton manufacturers were extremely colourful. The procession was bigger than any procession seen before.
