When the King and Queen visited Preston the buildings and streets were decorated with banners and streamers. They were greeted on the Market Place by thousands of well-wishers and the Mayor of Preston and members of the town council. Local school children on the Harris Museum and Art Gallery sang 'God save the King'. After visiting the Town Hall and were then taken to the Horrockses Yard Works on Stanley Street.
