1823 Horrocks first foreign agency is founded in Portugal

In 1823, Horrocks established its first foreign agency selling its cotton cloth in Europe. This followed attempts to build up the profile of the company internationally. In 1817, for example, the historian Anthony Hewitson recorded that the Spanish ambassador, the Duke of San Carlos, was given a tour of Preston and the factories operated by Horrocks. In 1830 Horrocks opened their first agency in India.
