1895 Centenary Mill on New Hall Lane is built

Centenary Mill

Centenary mill, New Hall Lane, 1912.

The last cotton mills in Preston were built during the 1890s and the first few years of the 20th century. These mills were much larger than those built earlier in the 19th century.

Centenary Mill, on New Hall Lane, was built on the site of New Preston. It was finished in 1895 and cost £125,000 to build, which would be about £40 million today. It was designed using a revolutionary new steel frame construction. It was equipped with the latest spinning machinery.
