1927 King Fuad of Egypt visit Horrockses

On 17 July 1927 King Fuad of Egypt visited Horrockses Yard Works during his state visit to England. Egyptian cotton was one of the types of cotton used in the factory. Two years later the Sultan of Zanzibar also paid a visit to Horrockses. Horrockses claimed the Yard Works was one of the greatest textile plants in the world. In the 1920s the Yard Works was still using 19th century machines when all over the world cotton factories were adopting the new automatic loom.
