1793 Napoleonic Wars begin The
Napoleonic Wars were, in reality, a world war, with fighting taking
place all across the globe. The war was mainly between France and Britain
but involved other European countries. The French armies were commanded
by Napoleon Bonaparte who made himself Emperor of the French in 1800.
The war lasted almost 22 years. For a long period the French Navy stopped
trading ships from entering or leaving British ports. This had a devastating
effect on the economy and people's lives during the war. The war ended
in 1815 after the defeat of the French at the Battle of Waterloo.
