The British Pathe Archive is now available to all schools connected to CLEO Broadband. CLEO (with the other 9 RBCs) has secured a 3-year deal to allow unlimited free access* to use this massive archive that covers events from the death of Queen Victoria to the birth of space travel.

The British Pathe Archive spans 75 years of changing society, culture, economics, technology, politics and war. National and international stories appear alongside regional and local news items, reviews and documentary features. The archive includes films clips that were never broadcast at the time of their creation. 3,500 hours of film and over 12 million high-quality still images are now available on any machine connected to CLEO. This archive represents a unique opportunity for teachers and students alike to enhance learning and teaching across the curriculum.

Films are available to download in Windows Media format (.wmv) and QuickTime format (.mov) and within a CLEO connected school can be edited, spliced, re-narrated, underscored and reconfigured to meets the needs of many curriculum areas. Stills for download are in JPEG (.jpg) format and can be given similar treatment.

*Subject to the terms and conditions of The Schools Licence (please see Schools Licence attached).

This section of the CLEO is here to support the use of the British Pathe website and resources in the CLEO region.

CLEO will be highlighting interesting projects created using the film resources - not just conceived and developed by CLEO, but from other parts of the country as well.

We would also like to hear from you if you are using the Pathe resources. We are keen to highlight all levels of use, by teachers and students in any subject area. Email us here at the CLEO office with a few notes about what you are up to.
