CLEO is one of the ten regional broadband consortia (RBC), jointly funded by the DCFS and Lancashire and Cumbria County Councils under the Harnessing Technology element of the Schools Standards Fund. Regional Broadband Consortia are groups of Local Authorities established to procure cost-effective broadband connectivity for schools and promote the development of content for broadband networks. The RBCs currently interconnect to form a National Education Network (NEN).
There are two aspects to the CLEO project
- Your CLEO broadband connection
Cumbria and Lancashire are working together to provide the most appropriate broadband solution for your school. A team of staff work in the CLEO Project office situated in Lancaster.
The CLEO network is able to provide your school with;
- A connection for broadband internet access that is available 24 hours a day 365 days of the year.
- Access to the NEN via the RBC interconnect which will allow schools and other academic institutions across England to connect with each other.
The CLEO connection is a symmetrical broadband link of at least 10Mb for Primaries and 100Mb for Secondaries. For a detailed comparison chart please refer to the broadband section of the CLEO website.
- CLEO services for your school
CLEO is far more than just a connection to the internet, it is also an internet-based learning community for teachers, pupils and parents across Lancashire and Cumbria and for all those involved with supporting education.
CLEO also provides a wide range of additional services as part of your school's CLEO subscription to help your school deliver on the Harnessing Technology strategy. These include a virtual learning environmentl, pupil e-portfolio, parental online reporting, video conferencing programmes and much more.
