RSS Feed (Really Simple Syndication)

What is RSS?

RSS allows you to pick and choose content and have it fed directly into your website.  Sites such as the BBC offer RSS newsfeeds - and MTN allows your school website to be updated with the stories on your MTN pages (that are graded 4 and 5) as you post them, keeping your readers up-to-date with new content as it is added.

How to start using RSS feeds

The first thing you need is something called a News Reader. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. All allow you to display and subscribe to the RSS feeds you want.

Once you have chosen a News Reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want. To include the newsfeed from your school's Making the News page you need to click on the link on the bottom left hand corner of your school's page.  When you click on the button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your News Reader.

Where do I get a News Reader?

There are many different News Readers available with updated versions are appearing all the time. Talk to your school's technicians to see what they suggest.

Different News Readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice.
