Making the News can also have an impact within the curriculum. 

Here are some examples:

Food tech – photographs of the ingredients and then the finished meal – or a picture/film of the family enjoying it!  The accompanying writing can set out the learning objectives and how they were met.

Art and Design projects can also be approached through MTN.  Pictures of a drawing or sculpture or D&T project will also look great – beginning, middle and end with a commentary or discussion of the learning that is taking place.

Why not use MTN to show video clips of drama projects, mp3s of music projects and animations from across the curriculum.

Responses with a real news feel – broadcasts using webcam recordings from history, RE or geography students referring to events they are studying would be very effective.  Everything is news when you learn about it for the first time.  Science experiments make excellent news – especially when accompanied by graphics, audio or video.

FlashBlogging also has an obvious relevance to MFL studies – how about a recording in the target language accompanied by a translations?  Or using it to set maths challenges accompanied by workings and explanations?

Access and links to ICT projects – web pages, databases etc is just a click of a mouse away with MTN.

Uses within English are obvious – recordings of fiction studied, publishing of fiction and non-fiction texts written in class and for homework, videos of drama recordings….

MTN can be used to write articles about rules and best practice in PE – accompanied by diagrams, photos or video, of course. 

Science experiments can be videoed and reported upon – with sound, video or graphic responses – and results!

Citizenship and PHSE will also make the most of MTN – what easier way to have an effect on your community than by writing and publishing?  This also applies to PE – budding sports journalists can get a good start here and GCSE students can publish their training schedules and good practice.
