New CLEO Service for secondary schools - Mahara E-portfolio

As part of a solution to help support schools  meet the requirements of the Harnessing Technology/ Next Generation Strategy 2008-2011, CLEO is providing secondary school  pupils with access to an E-portfolio including secure online storage space.

Mahara is an Open Source e–portfolio that can be integrated into Moodle.  As Mahara is an Open Source system, like Moodle, CLEO has the ability to modify and adapt the system to suit  schools needs, and this will be a key driver for the project.

Mahara authenticates with Moodle, so a pupil in Moodle can access their e-portfolio without the need to log in separately.

Mahara allows the pupil to store files and images, build a CV, and has an in-built social networking system. Mahara also allows the pupil to build different ‘views’ of the e-portfolio and allow access for different audiences. Future versions of Moodle (Moodle 2.) will also allow a user to easily transfer content from Moodle to their Mahara E-portfolio, which allows the users forum posts and assignments, for example, to be added to their e-portfolio.
