CLEO MIDAS project

2nd September 10

What is MIDAS?

MIDAS (Moodle Integration & Dashboard Authentication Service) Introduction

To date the CLEO Moodle service has been focussed on teachers and pupils. CLEO MIDAS will expand the reach of audiences who will interact with a schools learning platform, including school management staff and most importantly parents and carers. Fundamental to ensuring that these new audiences are only able to access information relevant to them will be the integration of school Management Information Systems (MIS), authentication services, Moodle and CLEO MIDAS.

CLEO commenced a procurement starting in 2008 to provide a service to integrate existing schools management information systems (predominantly Capita SIMS) and existing centrally hosted virtual learning environments (Moodle), and incorporate a range of new and additional features for pupils, staff and parents.

The service will address these key areas:

  • Online parental access to appropriate information from SIMS including reporting (December 2009)
  • Provide each pupil with an E-portfolio including secure online storage space and a link to information from SIMS where appropriate (September 2009)
  • Linking the Moodle Virtual Learning environment (VLE) with Management Information System (MIS) to create a Managed Learning environment (MLE) with a customisable homepage with single sign-on (December 2009)

MIDAS and the services it provides will need to be different for Primary and for Secondary Schools. MIDAS should take into account special needs pupils and accessibility guidelines for adults.
