Most of the work of MIDAS will go on behind the scenes, but to help you visualise some of what MIDAS will try to achieve imagine all users, pupils, teachers, management staff and parents having their own personal webpage, their "virtual desktop" or "virtual dashboard" where things relevant to them can be accessed all in one place. For pupils this might be their e-portfolio page or it could be a separate page or it could be a modified homepage.

Whatever MIDAS looks like and whether the user logs in to the “Dashboard” or another page, they would be presented with the services to which they are entitled to access and any personalisation they have chosen to apply. They may also see items that a teacher has made available for them and are personal to their needs.

Over the last 2 years the number of services available centrally for schools from CLEO and the LAs has increased, many of which require staff in schools to have passwords and for CLEO and/or LAs to maintain user authentication databases.

In order to improve service MIDAS could provide single-sign-on access to appropriate CLEO services and LA services e.g. schools’ email via the “dashboard". See illustration below.
